PROFILE
Dr. Alexander Esslinger is a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. He advises and represents clients from various high-tech industries before the German and European Patent Offices, the Federal Patent Court, and the Federal Court of Justice (in patent nullity proceedings).
In patent infringement cases before German civil courts, he frequently collaborates with specialized attorneys at law. Over the past decade, Dr. Esslinger has handled numerous international patent disputes in fields such as telecommunications, vascular stents, and LED technology, becoming a passionate advocate for patent litigation.
In August 2016, for instance, he successfully defended a fundamental patent in the field of white LEDs before the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH). Dr. Esslinger served for 15 years (until 2015) as Chair of FICPI’s working group on the patenting of software inventions.
He is also the author of multiple publications on intellectual property law and a frequent speaker at international conferences. Highlights include a mock trial led by CAFC Chief Judge Michel at the FICPI World Congress in Washington, D.C., in June 2009, and a keynote presentation titled “AI in IP: How will Artificial Intelligence transform the practice of IP law?” at the FICPI World Congress in Toronto in June 2018.
Dr. Esslinger was named in Who’s Who Legal 2018 under the category of Patent Agents Germany.
