PROFILE
Kimio Takahashi has been a Japanese patent attorney since 2002. Following his studies in aerospace engineering, he initially worked at a large patent law firm in Osaka. In 2005, he joined a renowned Munich-based patent law firm and, in 2010, became one of the first Japanese professionals to pass the European Patent Attorney examination successfully.
Kimio has extensive experience in patent application, opposition, and appeal proceedings, including oral hearings before the European Patent Office. He primarily advises clients in the fields of information and communication technology, electrical engineering, mechatronics, and general mechanical engineering. Through drafting hundreds of patent applications in Japan and his frequent constructive interactions with examiners at the European Patent Office, he has gained a deep understanding of addressing the challenges faced by Japanese and other non-European applicants, particularly those arising from the unique practices of the EPO regarding clarity and inventive step requirements.
With his considerable experience in EPO proceedings, broad technical expertise, and fluency in multiple languages, Kimio is a highly valued advisor and representative for Japanese clients.
